Finding a quiet centre: Therapy for the N1 and E8 community

Living and working in East London brings a unique set of internal demands. Whether you are navigating a demanding career, the complexities of the creative industries, or simply the relentless pace of life in Haggerston and Dalston, your nervous system is often in a state of constant adaptation.

I often work with people who are insight-rich. You might have a clear, intellectual understanding of your history and why you feel the way you do. Yet, there is a persistent gap: the mind has the information, but the body remains 'dialled up' - stuck in patterns of overthinking, restlessness, or a quiet sense of unrest that doesn't seem to respond to logic.

The urban nervous system

In a high-stimulation environment like London, our internal systems often move into a protective stance. We become experts at doing and analysing, but we lose the ability to simply 'be'.

This isn't a flaw to be fixed; it is a system doing its best to navigate a complex world. However, when your internal 'protectors' stay on high alert for too long, it leads to the exhaustion and disconnect that many of my clients describe when they first walk into my N1 therapy room.

Moving toward internal authority

My approach, Be Your Own Therapist, is designed to bridge the gap between knowing your story and actually experiencing a shift in your daily life. Drawing from the framework in my course, we use two primary lenses:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): We look at the 'multiplicity' of the self. Instead of trying to exile your anxiety or your inner critic, we bring a sense of tenderness and fascination to these parts. We seek to understand their intent so you can move from being led by your triggers to leading your own life.

  • Somatic Inquiry: We pay attention to the 'felt sense' in the body. By learning to negotiate with the physical tension or the "buzzing" of a busy mind, we signal safety to the brain in a way that talk alone cannot achieve.

Practical support near Haggerston Station

My practice is located five minutes from Haggerston Overground, making it a quiet sanctuary for those in Hackney, Islington, and London Fields.

In our sessions, the goal is not for you to become dependent on a therapist, but to develop your own Internal Authority. We focus on:

  • Regulating the System: Practical tools to move from 'high-alert' to 'rest' while remaining in the heart of the city

  • Deepening Self-Awareness: Moving past the why and into the how of your internal experience

  • Sustainable Change: Building a set of internal skills that support you long after our work together concludes

If you feel ready to move from intellectual awareness to a lived, embodied sense of change, please do get in touch. Whether we meet in person in N1 or via Zoom, we will work at a pace that allows your system to feel truly seen and supported.
